Sir K talks!

Chat

For the past months, Kuris Animators have been going through a lot of transitions. They are eager to learn and spend more time honing their skills as well as passion for their chosen craft. They have been busy coping up with the pressure of several projects and positive feedback. The BEQUEST has been gaining massive attention from the internet lately and the number of viewers of its trailer grew swiftly at youtube. Well, thanks to the blogger extraordinaire, Brian Gorrell, his insights about Kuris proved to be a big major turning point.

But amid all the pressures and changes, Kuris’ ever-optimistic adviser and former animation instructor, Mr. Karlo Sira is one of the team’s biggest inspiration to chase their dream and enjoy each other’s company. From day one this group of amateur animators decided to form a team, his presence seemed visible in every endeavor and project. He admired how this small group of artists bravely faced the odds and proved that Ilonggo animators create something great out of their passion.
Taking a break from the hectic schedule of the special project where selected Kuris Animators are also part of it, Sir Karlo expressed his sentiments and positive forecast for the future of the group। Here are some of his good insights in a candid interview with the

Kuris Blog Editor…

Hex: Since you were responsible in recommending selected members of Kuris to the special project of WVCST Computer Department this year, what are the good feedbacks you received lately about the group’s output?
Sir Karlo: Personally, I am very much contented with your groupmate’s effort
। They have proven their skills and talents in computer graphics. The good quality of work they showed in the project made us proud. All the hard work is paying well now. Let’s hope we can maintain that good start.
Hex: I believe you are also part of the special project (making animated/graphic modules for selected government agencies), how is it like working with them again since The BEQUEST?
Sir Karlo: It’s always fun to be with them. We compliment each other’s unique personalities and talents. We learn a lot of things together not only as their former instructor but as a team member. Whatever hardship and challenges comes along the way, we can easily overcome it because we make sure that we did our best.
Hex: Is there any good advises you can give them about their plan to join the Animahenasyon 2008?
Sir Karlo: I always say this to them—just believe in your dreams and live your passion. Stay humble and contented with what you have. Learn to share everything and keep moving on.
Hex: The BEQUEST and Kuris were recently mentioned in the blog of a famous Australian blogger—Brian Gorrell, a local newspaper also made a news article about their appearance in that blog, do you think it really made a difference?
Sir Karlo: The group has always been optimistic and passionate with what they do so it’s a compliment to be appreciated by Gorrell. The BEQUEST is a proof of their hardwork, dedication and perseverance to share something great for Ilonggo culture so I am glad that lots of people truly appreciate their talents right now. And I hope the future would be much better for them and their dreams.
Hex: Last query, are you contented with the kind of direction Kuris is heading for?
Sir Karlo: Sure, they never stop learning, developing their skills and talents. They’re not afraid to risk and pursue the things they like to do. Right now, I am contented with the way people are recognizing their effort and appreciating their goal to uplift Ilonggo culture through animation.

pointers

Bryan imagining he’s a rockstar
Aladin aka Aladin turns into Akon!

Marx made his music debut

Jay and Marx...working hard 24/7

K-guys on the loose again!
points

We might be sticking around with the “one-word-title-blog-post-policy” for a while। We might be losing creativity these days because of the project pressures। So, we’re taking the straight-forward, weird-structured blog splash। Stick around you might get something you haven’t read about us…(roll the dice!)
5 points: Jay Lord got it…
He did an awesome job in making 3D clips for the LIVE EARTH video concert and Coronation Night of Bo. Obrero Fiesta Queen (get the date—Aug. 11, 15, respectively) shown in both multi-media widescreen presentation during the plaza event. Kuris are really well-known in that place, believe me.
Jay: “Ti musta my budget to ang 3D nga ginobra ko gamit ang bago nga software ni Bryan?”
Me: “may ara eh… next week lang a!”
4 points: Tatang is in…
Aladin a.k.a Tatang via text: “Nel, sano mo liwat dal-on laptop mo kay tapuson ko to ang 3D nga ginaanimate ko last time…baskog to di bla?”
Hex textback: “Bwas lang Tang, busy-busy gid ko diri sa assignment ginhatag ni Sir R…OK ah ayos kana mga 3D”
Now, our shy-looking “Samuragi” guy is trying his luck with 3D courtesy of Bryan’s encouragement. Soon this humble guy is gonna blow our mind with his talent-expansion… and still continues doing good graphics with the project.
3 points: Bryan goes whack!
Correct answer--- “b”. This stuff is really awesome. It can go beyond the usual 3D cinematics that’s why it is called 4D for a reason that only Bryan knows best.
2 points: Lyndon gets strict.
Lyndon: “dapat sa biyernes tapos mo a tanan nga ginassign ko nga graphics ha… tamaran ko maghulat”
Me talking to myself: “hay kahinay sa akon mag-obra a…sige lang try and try, I won’t die”
5:20am. Scenario: everybody’s snoring, swimming in dreamland, shutdown, slumbering---translation: tulog!...except for Lyndon. He’s much more worried of the deadline and I’m dead if I can’t finish the assigned graphics. There he goes working hard 24/7.
1 point: Elson interlude.
Friendster on the loose, YM guy, yahoo kid…well, he’s the luckiest one to have his PC online with wi-fi internet 24/7 while the rest of us don’t have.
Elson: “mapuhuway-huway ko anay, ti sin-o mainternet?
All-together: “AKO!”
Life is tough these days, hehe…
0 points: Marx is zero.
Marx: “dali-a na tapusa nato napaobra sa imo ay…”
Hex: “takan ko a, ka bantayero!”
This guy deserves an employee-of-the-week medal for his blabbing. He’s gonna be the filthiest-rich kid when the pay comes soon. No comment, hehe.
Postscript: so what do you think we’re doing in those pictures we posted above? Wala lang gadinungol kag pawala sa sobra nga kapoy (lantaw internet kag hampay tekken eh!). Did you ever think we are seriously devoted to the big P?...maybe sometimes.

meal deal, big deal

These stuff makes the Kuris guy’s busy for the rest of their summer and even until now. Talented freaks on the loose, hehe!

Marky always feels good texting his honey… hmmm.

Kuris power puff girls Carmen and Nenette drop by to say hi to the rest of the team. Well, it’s easy for them to visit since they have a class in the next room every other day.

Aladin aka Tatang the great is boasting a lot of his good works with his graphic…sure he does!

Jay Lord is a certified Textus fanaticos!

Bray, what’s gotten into you that you’re getting serious with your internet surfing?

Hey guys don’t fight over who’s gonna get the table ready for our lunch, hehe!

Release

Release your imagination. Let your excess baggage go for while. Stop carrying the weight of your world in your back when you feel like the world has turned it back on you. Life goes on and it doesn't wait for anybody.

For more than a year already, we, the misunderstood and sometimes, neglected Kuris Animators have fought the good fight and showed our best. So if we appear to be more appreciative of what we've been through, I think it's the very reason that we don't stop learning to be good. Good enough to prove that Ilonggo animators are indeed promising.

Interlude 1: Lunch time chaos

Hex: guys it's time to have a break and eat our lunch... Tatang will you go with me to buy some "sud-an" outside?

Marx: Don't forget the coke, Sir said OK!

Bryan: Hurry up guys I'm starving now, hehe!

Jay: I'll go get the pitcher and buy some mineral water from the water station... do you have some coins?

Lyndon: Here, hurry up so that we can eat and proceed with our project...the dealine is near!

15 minutes later...

Elson: Please pass the rice guys... I want some more.

Marx: I want some coke... Jay, can you pass it for me?

Bryan: Please pass the "kinilaw" for Sir...

Jay: Hey, the "kinilaw" tastes good, hehe!

Lyndon: the last one to finish eating will wash the plates...

Hex: don't bother about it people, I'll volunteer OK!

These days, we have a new challenge to face in the coming months. The school's special project needs a lot of effort from us and our artistic skills is useful to make it work. Marx, Bryan and Jay started to take part in the project last April. The rest of us-- Tatang, Elson, Lyndon and me joined the team later. Our project head plans to expand the need for graphic artists and our fellow Kuris animators next in line. Of course, let's not be biased, the rest of the animators from other groups will be called also in the coming weeks or months to make the special project more effective.

Marx and Bryan have been talking a lot of sleepless nights and stressful work 24/7 since they started in the special project. Yeah, upon telling me this stuff, it reminds us of our hardwork in the making of The BEQUEST last January. To this day, we could somehow told ourselves that we risked a lot for it. It was a hard choice to cope up but our friendship and passion pushed us further to succeed.

Interlude 2: In-between chaos

Bryan: I'm checking some new 3D software in the internet guys, hehe!

Hex: By the way Bray, can you open Marvel.com and check the latest Iron Man animation...it's cool and funky, believe me.

Marx: Let's go and get some smoke guys...

Elson: I'll go with you Marx, wait up!

Lyndon: Sun, did you finish the new layout Sir gave us earlier?

Elson: Yup, I saved it in your folder...just check it out OK.

Jay: Nel, did you bring your Transformer DVD, I want to watch it while doing my work?

Hex: yeah, get it in my bag please...So Bray, did you see the Iron Man trailer now?

Bryan: yup, it's a 3D animation converted into 2D... It looks awesome coz' the movements are smooth...that's what makes 3D animation standout.

Tatang: Is that the same concept that we will use in the making of Lapis next year?

Bryan: If we have a good 3D software other that what we used in BEQUEST, I think we could outdo ourselves again...

Hex: We can do it as long as we stick together and keep holding on guys..

Tatang: Bryan's hands are itching to work for that project!

Bryan: Sure, I am!

Well, we just have to play around with our imagination while doing the special project. The BEQUEST is set for another round of editing in September--three new scenes and some audio enhancements. LAPIS will be much bigger than we could imagine, I hope God will be good to us and show us the way to find what we desire most. As long as the special project exists, we won't let each other go and the "barkada" is going stronger. Whatever misery we hide at the back of heads, we can overcome it and release it for the Kuris' sake.

Blogging...end.

PS: We miss our Kuris girlfriends-- Racil, Janelyn, Carmz (hehe, we see her every other day coz' they have a class in the other room), Nenette, Jee Ann, Roselyn and Bebs. But not the chairman!... he reminds us of the dark days and the lousy masquerade. So what if he's around. We don't need an excess baggage... but Dad's we miss you too, hehe!
