Kuris is back again...

Ilonggo animators eye 1st film entry
By Jeehan Fernandez

KURIS, a group of Ilonggo animators, will start making their first animated entry to the Animation Council of the Philippines (ACPI)’s second Pinoy Animation Film Festival in November 2008.
Entitled Lapis: Epic of the lost Key, the entry is a short trailer about the adventure of a boy who lived in Iloilo City during World War II.
His dreams will guide him to find a magic pencil that fell from heaven 5,000 years ago in the mountains of Lambunao, Iloilo which created Tinagong Dagat (hidden lake).
The magic pencil has the power to give life to everything that is drawn by its chosen master, the chosen dreamer.
The animated trailer will be done in 2D and 3D formats. The group considers the project their contribution to the promotion of Lambunao’s tourism potential since it gives a glimpse of the lives of natives of Lambunao.
The ACPI festival will accept animated entries from all over the country and will be judged by Filipino animators from Pixar and Walt Disney.
ACPI encourages original Filipino content and story in the entries to boost Filipino’s talents in animation.
Kuris animators have been sharpening their skills which could help them to sketch their way into the animation industry.
Upon invitation by Paradise World Travel and Tours, they gave a three-hour lecture on content development for 2D and 3D animation last Feb. 19 at Racsos Woodland Resort, Guimbal, Iloilo .
Some 50 Information Technology (IT) students from Romblon State College who went on a three-day educational trip to Iloilo City were fascinated and entertained by the talents of Ilonggo animators.Ronelo Ladiao, concept director of Kuris Animation Unlimited, conducted a comprehensive lecture on the history, various forms and techniques in animation developed through the progress of technology.
He also credited the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) through PGMA-TWSP program for opening better opportunities for aspiring animators.
Before the lecture concluded, a film showing by the animators gained appreciation from both students and teachers.
The film showing included the teaser trailer of Lapis: Epic of the Lost Key; The Adventures of TASI; and the first Ilonggo animated film, The Bequest: Origin of Dinagyang.Roy Gatpatan, director of Paradise World Travel and Tours , lauded the animators’ efforts in uplifting the Ilonggo culture through their work.
Gatpatan promised to invite Kuris Animators for future lectures.
